How Do I Renew My Massachusetts Electrical License

The state of Massachusetts has gone online – this means you will be renewing your electrical license online. In order to have an easy renewal when July comes around, you will want to first Register an Account on the ePLACE portal. When you’re ready to register an account, visit the Commonwealth of Massachusetts ePLACE Portal. You will have to create a username and password on the ePLACE portal registration page. Make sure to write down your username and password so you have them handy! Once you have registered an account, you will be notified with the following message: “Congratulations. You have successfully created an account with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts ePLACE. You will receive a confirmation by email.” Next, you need to link this Portal account to your license record. Login to your ePlace account and click on the Home tab. Under the menu, you will see a header that says “What would you like to do?” Under it, you will see a link to link your account to your license. Select “Link Your License/Permit/Certificate to your portal account” and then click “Continue” at the bottom of the page. Once your license record is linked to your portal, you will see your license listed under the “Manage Licenses, Permits & Certificates” tab. Massachusetts electrical licenses expire every 3 years on July 31st. Massachusetts electrical licenses will expire on July 31, 2019. In order to continue working and keep an active electrical license, you must complete continuing education hours and report them before the expiration date. Massachusetts Master and Journeyman electricians are required to complete 21 hours of continuing education every 3 years (15 must be approved MCE hours. When you login and are on the Manage Licenses tab, look to the right of your license number and click on “Renew” and not “Amendment” (unless you need to make changes). Verify your contact information, answer the required questions, verify you have completed your CE, and pay online with a credit card, debit card, electronic check, or ePay. Note, this fee is paid to the state and is independent of the cost of completing continuing education hours.
You will receive a confirmation notice and receipt once you pay for your Mass electrical license renewal. If you have more than once license type, you will have to complete these renewal steps for each license renewal.

Does this course for MA, also satisfy the RI required hours?
Not at this time. We are not yet approved as a provider of electrical continuing education in Rhode Island, but we are working on it and hope to have courses for both next renewal cycle.
