How Do I Renew My Minnesota Electrical License?
By: JADE Learning | Mar 28, 2019
Renewing your Minnesota electrical license requires brushing up on updates to the current code as well as a straightforward renewal process with the state. We’ve laid out the steps you’ll need to take below alongside how JADE Learning can make this whole process even easier.
Renewing Your Minnesota Electrical License
Step 1: Find your electrical license expiration date.
An electrical license issued in the state of Minnesota must be renewed every two years. The renewal deadline for Master electricians is February 28, 2021, while the deadline for Journeyman electricians is staggered based on the date of license issue.
Step 2: Complete your electrical continuing education.
Both Master (AM, BM) and Journeyman (AJ, BJ) electricians in Minnesota must complete a total of 16 hours of Minnesota electrical continuing education every two years in order to renew their electrical license. A minimum of 12 hours of this CE should focus on the National Electrical Code. License holders seeking maximum credit can spend an additional 4 hours on topics related to Minnesota state laws and regulations as well as technical topics.
RE and RT licensees are required to complete 2 hours of NEC-focused continuing education every two years.

Step 3: Renew your Minnesota electrical license.
When you’re ready, you can renew your license online through the official Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry website. You will also find instructions there to complete a paper renewal if you prefer.
Remember that the bond covering your license is continuous, so you don’t have to submit updated bond forms with your renewal. However, you must ensure your Secretary of State filing is up to date as your license can’t be renewed if your filing is inactive.
